Borrowing many of dances of Ballroom, the Tea Dance
traditionally is a set of dances which takes place after tea and
in couples. The dances practiced are such as the quickstep Tango,
the Waltz, the Charleston and more.
Tea Dances were at the height of success
at the beginning of the 1900’s, with middle class friends
meeting in each others gardens for tea and dancing. In the 1920’s
the dances became more of an event and various styles of dance slipped
their way in and became common place. The Cha Cha, Charleston and
Foxtrot all made their name.
At these Tea Dances many types of music
are played form Big Band to Classical music for waltzing the day
away.
